Littering Can Get Expensive

Littering fines in Louisiana can range form $175 to $1,000 and up to eight hours of in a litter abatement program, according to the state’s Wildlife & Fisheries Department. Litter flying out of the back of your pickup truck is considered simple littering and could cost you $175. If you get caught intentionally throwing trash out of your car window, you could be fined $250. Putting large amounts of trash into a ditch can cost you between $500 and $1,000. What You Can Do

If you want to avoid littering fines, clean out the bed of your truck on a regular basis. Make sure you have a trash bag in your car or boat to collect your garbage. Do not throw cigarette butts, or other trash out of your vehicle or vessel. Also, pests can also get into your garbage and litter it all over the streets. Make sure you cover and secure trash cans so animals cannot spread your garbage.
