Tales of the Cocktail….What’s new in Cocktails

Don’t miss Tales of the Cocktail this summer. From July 17th to July 22nd, 2018 the worldwide cocktail community will descend on New Orleans once again as Tales of the Cocktail returns for its 16th year. This annual gathering that’s equal parts cocktail conference and family reunion will feature a spirited schedule of brand new seminars, tangs, competitions and networking events representing the latest our industry has to offer. We’ll also have special events planned to honor the tricentennial of our hometown being celebrated this year. Catch up with old friends, learn some new techniques and further your career at Tales of the Cocktail 2018.

Events: The New Orleans Cocktail Tour

The week will be filled with exciting events including  a  New Orleans Cocktail Tour. There’s a reason Tales of the Cocktail® calls New Orleans home—the city’s legendary bars and bartenders helped shaped how Americans drink. Join us as we explore the rich cocktail history of our city with a spirited romp through the French Quarter led by tour guide, Joe Gendusa and team. We’ll start at Napoleon House for a lesson on a classic cocktail then head out to share tall tales of the famous bars, restaurants, people and cocktails that made New Orleans such a famous place to have a drink. Seminars: The Jamaican Difference: Bring In The Rum, Bring In The Funk

Tales of the Cocktail also features a wide variety of educational seminars including one about Jamaican rum.  From Tiki nerds to cocktail classicists every well curated back bar includes Jamaican Rums. While many describe Jamaican rum as funky little is known about what makes its profile so distinct from other rums. What makes this Jamaican difference when it comes to flavor and aroma? Last year, we began the search for Funk in our From Dunder to Wonder Tales seminar by kicking off a scientific study by Arielle Johnson, MIT Media Lab, to look for the molecular source of funk in rums. We return this year to share our results from the lab and to expand our definition of funk by looking to the Geographical Indication status of Jamaican Rums with the Appleton Estate Master Blender, Joy Spence. Join us as we explore the traditional knowledge and cultural expressions of Jamaica that all contribute to funk. Bringing back Master Blender Joy Spence and moderator Don Lee, this year we will be joined by Martin Cate, owner/author of Smugglers Cove.

River Parish Disposal

Tales of the Cocktail is a great New Orleans summer event that brings the cocktail community together. The River Parish Disposal team is excited to be the EXCLUSIVE Waster Management Company for the event. This year we will supply over 200 Cardboard Trash Boxes for all of the events, parties and seminars. Our team is excited to be a part of this great New Orleans event.
